Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
HouseScan is operated by PTE Study Pty Ltd (ABN 36 624 610 751). We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. This page sets out what we collect, why, who we share it with and how long we keep it.
In short: You can read reports without signing in. Saving homes or starting alerts requires sign-in. We store your email, shortlist, saved home details and alert settings. We do not sell personal information or use ads or third-party analytics.
What we collect
- The addresses and houses you look up. We use them to build the report. Results such as listing details and aerial reads are cached by address, without a record of who looked them up.
- What you upload or type: contract pages, screenshots, listing text and questions. We use them only to produce your answer, and we send them to our AI provider to do that. We don't keep them once the answer is made. Our server logs record the house ID and size of a request, not its content.
- Your email address, when you sign in or follow a house. We store your email, shortlist, saved addresses and purchase details you enter, followed houses and language to sync your account and send alerts. Choose “Delete my account” in the top Account menu and confirm to remove account records and alerts for your email. Each alert email also has an unsubscribe link.
- Technical information: IP address, browser type and time of visit. These are kept in our hosting logs for a short time, for security and rate limiting.
- On your own device: after sign-in, your shortlist and My home sync to your account, with a local cache for quick display. Your first sign-in merges this device’s existing lists. Language and comparison weights stay on this device. Sharing your shortlist or My home puts the selected house IDs, addresses, prices or purchase month in the link. You decide who receives it.
Sign-in uses an HttpOnly, Secure session cookie lasting up to 90 days. An anonymous browser cookie limits daily AI use. Email codes expire after 10 minutes; the server stores code digests, security rate-limit records and daily use counts, without the plain code. Account records are private and keep the latest three versions; deleting an account removes these versions too. Hosting and email delivery logs follow those providers’ retention policies. Google sign-in is used to verify your email only when enabled and you choose it.
Who we share it with
We only share information with the companies that help us run the service. They may process or store data outside Australia, mainly in the United States:
- Vercel: hosting and data storage.
- Anthropic: AI processing of what you upload or type, and listing searches.
- Resend: confirmation and alert emails.
- Forward Email: passes mail sent to hello@housescan.com.au on to our inbox.
To check a house, we send the house's address or location, not who you are, to government map and data services. When you use the contract check, your browser loads the PDF reader from cdnjs (Cloudflare). Aerial imagery loads from NSW Spatial Services. We don't give your personal information to anyone else unless the law requires it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections and stored data is access-controlled. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't upload sensitive details we don't need, such as bank or ID numbers.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. If you have a concern about how we handle it, email us first and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
We may update this policy. The date above shows the latest version.
